For physics students, the situation is probably more complicated, since the jobs available for them are limited. What should you do? First, determine what future job you want. Identify the requirements to get the job as well. Then, set up a study plan that ensures you to obtain everything required to get your dream job. Execute the plan, make sure that as every second passes by, you are getting closer to your dream. Metal-oxide based material such as zinc oxide (ZnO) has attracted great interest for theoretical and experimental studies, and highly applicable for photonic, optoelectronic and future spintronic devices, such as being a semiconductor host for diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS). ZnO also has the advantage of a larger exciton binding energy (~ 60 meV) which assures more efficient excitonic emission at higher temperatures. In this talk, optical properties of ZnO based thin films towards optoelectronic and spintronic devices will be discussed.
Here, we will discuss the strong modification of the optical properties of ZnO thin film through doping and post deposition treatment, as an example by hydrogen annealing. We use the as-prepared amorphous and crystalline ZnO films grown physical vapor deposition technique such as by pulse laser deposition (PLD) and unbalanced magnetron sputtering. We found that hydrogen annealing treatment promote the significant strong green emission as directly shown by UV light exposure and further confirm by photoluminescence spectra. Spectroscopy ellipsometry analysis also supports the strong modification of the optical properties of ZnO film by Hydrogen annealing treatment. This study demonstrated the enhancement of green emission and the evolution of optical properties driven by
surface and structure modification.
Furthermore, to study the effect of atomic doping, we will discuss the excitonic states and related optical properties of pure and Cu doped ZnO films. The influence of electronic environment by selecting the different substrate, that is Pt (metal) and quartz (insulator) will be demonstrated as well. This study shows the weak electronic interactions between ZnO film and quartz substrate, in contrast to the ZnO film and Pt by considering the electronic blocking through the spontaneous recombination of valence electrons from Pt to ZnO film. As a function of Cu doping, we observe localized interband transition and screening effects on exciton for both systems
(ZnO film on Pt and ZnO film on quartz). Our results show the importance of itinerant electron from substrate and doping to strongly tune and modify the excitons and the optical conductivity of the wide bandgap semiconductor.

Carbon is one of the unique elements in the world. Although several materials have only carbon atoms, different crystal structure and carbon atomic bonding generates different material properties. When size and shape of carbon configuration down to nanometer scale, new and interesting material properties (optical, mechanical,
electrical properties) emerge. Several carbon based nanoparticles are carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphene dots, fullerene, polymer dots, carbon dots, etc.
In this seminar, I will present carbon dots nanoparticles, which has unique fluorescence properties. Synthesis, optical properties, and applications of carbon dots will be briefly described based on experimental results in Research Center for Physics, LIPI, South Tangerang. Synthesis of carbon dots is very simple by utilizing
natural resources and waste that can be found in our daily life. Carbon dots have interesting fluorescence properties, so that a series of experimental measurement have been done to reveal the origin of the fluorescence. Furthermore, carbon dots are potential for many advanced applications, such as photo-catalyst, heavy metal
sensor, solar cells, LEDs, bio-tagging, etc. Several experimental results leading to application of carbon dots will be presented.
In addition, I will describe several research policies in Kedeputian Ilmu Pengetahuan Teknik (IPT) LIPI that will encourage collaboration research between universities and LIPI.

Abstract
What is quantum mechanics trying to tell us about the nature of reality? Why it has the form it does? What fundamentally distinguishes quantum randomness and classical randomness, where do they part ways? It is remarkable that after 90 years since the completion of quantum mechanics, and despite its unparalleled pragmatical successes in predicting the experimental results, physicists and philosophers have not yet arrived at a consensus on the answers to the above foundational questions. One of the reasons is that the axioms of quantum mechanics are presented in a very abstract mathematical language with obscure meaning (e.g., states and physical quantities are represented by Hermitian operators in a complex Hilbert space, etc.) within an operational framework.
In this talk, I will argue that quantum mechanics is a modified version of everyday, conventional classical statistical mechanics. Quantum mechanics and classical statistical mechanics are developed within a common axiomatic realist framework. Relative to the classical statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics is distinguished
via a physical (ontic) extension, introducing a global-nonseparable variable generating physical correlation, and a specific statistical (epistemic) restriction, constraining the allowed phase space distribution that Nature allows us to prepare. The ontic extension and epistemic restriction, with strength on the order of Planck’s constant, imply quantum uncertainty relation and entanglement, two of the most distinguished concepts widely argued as responsible for the puzzling features of quantum worlds.
The new phase space model for quantum mechanics may offer novel (hopefully more powerful) tool to study quantum optics, quantum transport, and cold atoms. We expect that the (realist) model could provide fresh insight and better intuition to investigate the physical mechanisms and resources underlying the power and complexity of quantum information protocols (quantum computers, quantum communications, quantum cryptography, etc.) relative to their classical counterparts. Moreover, the axiomatic framework may suggest natural and consistent possible
extensions of quantum mechanics by relaxing some of its axioms.

The interaction of an intense femtosecond laser pulse with a neat liquid solvent has been known to produce a number of highly reactive species that are useful to induce photochemical reduction in the solution through the multiphoton excitation and ionization of solvent molecules. We named the phenomena as a femtosecond laser induced photochemical reaction (FLIP). High reactive species such as solvated electron and hydrogen radicals generated in FLIP process have a strong reducing power to reduce metal ions present in the solution. In this way, zero valence metal atoms are expected to precipitate resulted in the nanoparticles formation. Furthermore, when two or more metal precursors with different reduction potential are involved in the reduction process, the formation of homogenous alloy can be possibly generated, even for the immiscible system in the thermodynamic phase diagram. Moreover, nanostructure on a substrate can also be generated if the laser was focused and scanned over the interface between liquid and the substrate. Unlike its sister technology, i.e. pulse laser ablation in liquid (PLAL), FLIP has not been explored thoroughly, opening many more questions to find its answer.
In this seminar, I will deliver the fundamental aspects and the recent advances of this research in two main topics: (1) a synthesis of pure, binary and ternary system of gold (Au), silver (Ag) and platinum (Pt) noble metal nanoparticles using FLIP without pre-added reducing chemicals, and (2) nanostructure fabrication using FLIP with a radial polarized beam of MHz-repetition-rate femtosecond laser. In general, interesting findings and advances about the synthesis of pure and alloyed noble metal nanoparticles and nanostructures have been revealed, mainly by exploiting the interaction of femtosecond laser pulses with liquid. This route provides an easily and reproducible synthetic approach, that is applicable as an alternative for the established methods.

Tracking repetitive references and rejecting periodic disturbances are common tasks found in many control engineering applications. Repetitive Control (RC) is a learning control scheme that is designed to achieve both perfect accuracy tracking and good disturbance rejection. Recently, RC has been used in many applications, such as power supply control of proton synchrotron, disturbance rejection in disk drives, industrial robot control performing repetitive tasks, thickness control in cold rolling, active vibration compensation, attitude stabilization of satellites, total harmonic reduction in power inverter, disturbance rejection due to breathing in a flexible endoscopy system, and etc. RC is predictive control method which has a superior performance compared to the non-predictive control schemes. This is due to the capability of RC to learn the repetitive signal values and then generate them as control output. RC works well under the following conditions: (1) a constant periods of reference and disturbance signals and (2) the plant model is accurately known. However, if those conditions are not satisfied (e.g. the periodicity is varied and the plant model is time-varying or unknown), then the control performance will be significantly degraded (i.e. less accuracy and unstable system).
In this seminar, I will discuss RC-based control algorithms to overcome the limitations of conventional RCs. The proposed methods are named as: (a) Robust Repetitive Control (RRC), (b) Adaptive Repetitive Control (ARC), (c) Decentralized Repetitive Control (DRC), and (d) Sliding-Mode Repetitive Control (SMRC). I will also discuss applications that are used to verify the proposed methods and possible applications as my future works.

In this talk, I would like to discuss the optical properties of multilayer epitaxialgraphene at low and high energies (1.5 – 35 eV). Multilayer epitaxial graphenegrown by thermal decomposition on the carbon face (MEG-C) of a SiC
substrates exhibit the electronic and optical properties of freestanding
graphene, in which the interaction between graphene and underlying
substrate is absent. This is due to the existence of different orientations
between adjacent graphene layers which decouples those graphene layers.
On the one hand, the low energy optical properties of MEG-C resemble to that
of chemical vapour deposition (CVD) graphene on SiO2 substrate where one
can observe universal optical conductivity below 2 eV and asymmetric
absorption peak at 4.5 eV due to the process of interband transition and the
interaction between the electrons and electron-hole at M-points in the Brillouin
zone of graphene [1-4]. On the other hand, the high energy optical properties
of MEG-C has not been studied in details. According to the theory based on
density functional calculation (DFT) with local density approximation (LDA) in
which GW many-body effect and electron-hole interaction were included, the
absorption peak of freestanding graphene and bilayer graphene should occur
at 11 eV and 14.5 eV due to the uniqueness of parallel band between σ and
π* band [5]. I will report our recent optical data of MEG-C taken at very broad
energy range and will discuss the optical constant related to the dynamics of
the electrons of freestanding graphene at high energy

The climate variability over the maritime continent is important in affecting the global climate. However, the available Global Climate Model output data cannot capture climatic detail of the region that may lead to inaccurate climate information. The improvement in the climate information over this region is expected to benefit both research and society. Therefore, we plan to apply downscaling experiment using regional climate model system RegCM4.6. The model has been being shown to be quite good to study the climate variability in various regions. The proposed research aims to evaluate the performance of the RegCM4.6 to reproduce the climate variability over the chosen region for given initial and lateral boundary conditions. We focus to investigate the temperature, precipitation, and surface wind as the three of essential climate parameters in the tropical climate research. Moreover, the results are expected to give more reliable climate information, especially related to the extreme events happened over the region and the possible impact of climate change to anticipate the more severe societal effects in the future.

Basic idea of seismic interferometry is that Green’s function between receivers can be obtained from cross-correlation long time series of ground motion records from station pairs. A Green’s function between two points can be considered as a seismogram recorded at one location due to impulse or source of energy at the other location. The Green’s function may contain information about how energy propagates through Earth’s medium between two locations. Full reconstruction of the Green’s function requires diffuse wave field or uniform distribution of noises sources. Extraction of the Green’s function through correlation of ambient seismic noise has opened up new possible development for seismic imaging and monitoring of the Earth’s elastic properties. For example, we can determine structure at region with few earthquakes or stable tectonic region. It has been shown that surface wave components of Green’s function can be successfully reconstructed from ambient seismic noise correlation. From the obtained surface waves, we can infer structure beneath the stations using inversion of these waves. Recent studies also show that it is possible to extract body waves from the ambient noise correlation, which can be used to determine structure at a deeper depth.
In this talk, I will provide an overview of the topic. It will range from theoretical background to examples of field observation of seismic interferometry. I will also present some cases of Earth imaging and monitoring using ambient noise correlation

Abstract
GeoSlicer-X is an interactive, multi-platform data analysis software developed to help geoscientists and engineers in analyzing geoscientific data in three-dimensional visualization. The software has been developed by our UI Geothermal Research Group (UI-GRC) using Graphical User Interface (GUI) facility of MATLAB. In order to construct user friendly environment of data analysis, 3D model of extensive scientific data is produced in form of static (still) or dynamic (animated) images. Data correlation and analysis could be performed by utilizing qualitative and quantitative features within the software. Recently, the major implementation of GeoSlicer-X is to help geoscientists and engineers in analyzing geoscientific data with (X, Y, Z, Value) format input data. This software was first launched and published in the World Geothermal Congress (WGC) 2010 in Bali. Since then the software has been applied in many geothermal fields in Indonesia and Malaysia for analyzing geoscientific data such as geology, geochemistry and geophysical data, as well as reservoir modeling and simulation. This software has also been used as a visualization tool of other UI-GRC software products such as MT3DMod-X, MT3DInv-X (3D EM data modelling and inversion), MT2DMod-X and MT2DInv-X (2D EM data modelling and inversion). In addition, this software has also been applied for visualizing 3-D data format from Material Science Research Group of the Department of Physics, Universitas Indonesia. Other research group is also possible to utilized this software as far as the (X,Y,Z,Value) data is available. Recently, a joint research between our group with a New Zealand database software developer has been ongoing for integrating their GeoData Manager software with the GeoSlicer-X software, so that the geothermal database could be envisioned in 3-D visualization.

Abstract
Transmission electron microscope (TEM) is a perfect instrument for structural and chemical characterization at the nanoscale. Imaging, diffraction and microanalytical information are easily produced and then combined to give detailed insights into the properties and behavior of nanostructured materials. There are three main kinds of TEM techniques such as imaging techniques: including high resolution TEM, scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) imaging, and 3D electron tomography technique; spectroscopy techniques: including X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS); diffraction techniques: including selected area electron diffraction (SAED), nanobeam electron diffraction (NBED), and convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) as well as their combinations. Sample preparation prior to analysis is critical and directly impacts the quality of the characterization. From the nature of the technique, specimens have to be clean and dry prior to analysis, to ensure proper imaging and reliable analysis. Sample preparation is minimal for powders/particles but extensive for bulk specimens. Specific equipment for TEM sample preparation are ultrasonic disc cutter, dimpler, ion polishing). In addition, TEM specimens from specific locations on samples can be prepared in-situ using the focused ion beam.

Kegiatan penelitian Bahan Maju (advanced materials) merupakan salah satu kegiatan litbang utama di BATAN seiring dengan pengembangan BATAN sejak awal dalam pemanfaatan fasilitas laboratorium teknik berkas neutron sebagai salah satu laboratorium yang memanfaatkan fasilitas Reaktor Riset G.A. Siwabessy di Kawasan Puspiptek Serpong, serta seiring dengan kebutuhan masyarakat dan industri. Pusat Sains dan Teknologi Bahan Maju (PSTBM) sebagai pusat di BATAN yang ditugaskan dalam litbang advanced materials memiliki lingkup kegiatan litbang baterai lithium ion, litbang smart magnet dan magnet permanen, litbang material temperatur tinggi untuk reaktor nuklir dan litbang bionanomaterial. Litbang bahan maju ini memiliki jaringan riset nasional maupun internasional serta telah mendapatkan pengakuan nasional. Sejak tahun 2017 litbang baterai lithium PSTBM dipercaya Kemenristekdikti sebagai Koordinator Konsorsium Nasional Baterai Lithium. Tahun 2017 litbang smart magnet PSTBM dipercaya Kemenristekdikti sebagai Koordinator Progam Insentif Inovasi Industri Cat Anti Radar. Tahun 2016 litbang material temperatur tinggi PSTBM dipercaya Kemenristekdikti sebagai Koordinator Progam Pengembangan Teknologi Industri terkait teknologi dan aplikasi Arc Plasma. Tahun 2012-2013 litbang biomaterial PSTBM dipercaya Kemenristekdikti sebagai Koordinator Konsorsium Biomaterial Implan serta sebagai penggagas dan penggiat Masyarakat Biomaterial Indonesia. Sebagai bagian bentuk penghargaan dan pengakuan tingkat nasional, Menteri Ristekdikti Prof. H. Non-perturbative phenomena has a close connection with non-linear physics which is ubiquitous in everyday physics. It goes beyond perturbation expansion in which perturbation’s calculation can not be trusted in order to capture the correct dynamics. There are several methods developed by physicist to tackle this problem. In this seminar, I will discuss two methods that have been my main research in the last 10 years. The first method is AdS/CFT, or in general Gauge/Gravity, correspondence which was derived from String Theory. I will discuss how this method could solve the problem for calculating observables in sQGP (strongly coupled Quark-Gluon Plasma), which may has been produced in the LHC experiments at CERN, and they are self-photon production rate and drag force. The second method is called BPS Lagrangian approach which I develop to obtain BPS equations in a model. The BPS equations are first-order differential equations of Solitons which are known to exist at non-perturbative regime. These BPS equations not only simplify the second-order differential equations of Euler-Lagrange equations, but are
also closely related with supersymmetry which has been one of the main attentions in the LHC experiments at CERN. I will show how this method works for the case of three dimensional generalized Maxwell-Higgs model.

Spintronics is the science and technology that study spin in addition to electron charge as in conventional electronics. The manipulation of magnetic moment is one of the main focuses of spintronics. Recent development of spintronics took great interest in the manipulation of magnetic moments by spin current and vice versa. It leads to the discovery of spin pumping effect, pure spin current generation do to the electron’s spin dependent scattering. The scattering can be induced by the exchange interaction between the magnetic moment and the spin of adjacent normal metal’s electron This lecture discuss the dynamics of a magnetic moment in an electron gas, which is the simplest model of a metal’s conduction electron. The magnetization induces a dynamic spin density (RKKY) oscillation via exchange interaction. Furthermore, the interaction between the magnetization and spin density generates a spin current emanating radially out from the magnetic moment. Since the spin current generation is not accompanied by electric currents, the spin pumping effect can also be induced by the magnetic moment of insulating magnetic layers. The dynamics of such magnetic structures is important for engineering of microstructure devices, such as magnetic recording and nanoscale thermoelectric generator.
